‘My sister can’t foster a child because I told the social worker what she said’

A woman has revealed the awful reason her sister wanted to foster a child.

She explained that her 36-year-old sister – whom she named Jane for the post – and her husband “Bob” have two children together, a boy and a girl.

Although they fight as siblings, she said they’re wonderful kids and are no trouble at all.

She went on to say that for about two years, the woman, 28, lived with her sister.

But because her sister saw her as free labour, money and babysitting, it was a “miserable time” and it really affected their relationship.

She said: “Even when I managed to get a small part time job, she demanded I hand over nearly half my pay or get out.

“It was hell as she took completely advantage of me. I moved out as soon as I could and we have little contact outside of family gatherings.”

After she moved out her sister started complaining that she never gets a break because she has no help with the kids.

The woman went on: “Anyway she started talking about how she wanted to foster a kid. Not a kid but a teenager.

“I pressed her for more info on this. She wants to adopt a teenager so she has a live in babysitter for her kids.”

And this was what the woman said her sister’s reasoning was her fostering plans.

Her sister said: “I want a kid around 16 or 17, you know someone who may have been in the system for awhile.

“They can share a room with your nephew (she only has a three bedroom house) or sleep in the garage.

“They can help me with house work, chores, cook and help me with my business (She bakes and sells cookies).

“Also babysit the kids so me and Bob can go out sometimes or have some alone time. They’ll be so grateful for a home and won’t complain. I won’t have to pay them at all.

“And then when they turn 18, I can just sign up for another foster kid! A teenager will be so much easier than a little kid, they will be grateful just to have a roof, food, siblings if they have been separated from their real ones and clothes.”

The woman was utterly horrified by the idea and told her sister so but she wouldn’t listen to her and went ahead with it anyway.

A month later a social worker turned up at the woman’s house asking her questions about her sister, because she had been put down as a character witness.

Immediately she told the social worker why her sister really wanted to foster a teen and how badly she treated her when she lived with her – she said the social worker thanked her for her honesty.

She continued: “My sister called crying saying that she wouldn’t be considered for any adoptions or fosters.

“The social worker told her that they felt her home and her weren’t a good fit. She asked if I said anything and I told the truth.

“She went off on me, hung up and we haven’t spoken since. She has sent some angry texts. A couple family members are on her side.

“They think foster kids are f*g dogs or something and would be so happy just to have a roof and would gladly do all the housework.”

She concluded her post on Reddit by asking users whether she had been unreasonable by telling the social worker the real reason why her sister wanted to foster.

And everyone believed that she saved a teenager from a terrible life.

One person said: “As someone who worked in foster care & read 100s of reports of neglected, mistreated, abused and abandoned children. I am f*g livid & SO glad that you told the truth.”

Another wondered: “What was she planning on doing at 18 literally just kicking her out and saying ‘see ya thanks for the labor?'”

And a third said: “The notion of exploiting a kid for free labor and thinking its ok because, “they won’t complain” and “at least they will have a roof over their head” is beyond me.”
